Hi, I'm Anne Lewis.
Probably like you, I used to have regular therapy during my counselling training and then beyond. But then I got busy with setting up and running my practice and I was trying to make the sums add up. So I dropped my own therapy at a time when I felt okay – it had been really good therapy and I'd been able to do a lot of therapeutic work on childhood trauma and relationships, but now felt in a good place.
Recently, I’ve felt the need to go back into therapy, but I still had busyness and cost as barriers to fitting it back into my week, and I knew other therapists that felt the same way. And that's when I came up with the idea of how I could offer a therapy session in return for someone else offering me a therapy session. But we can't give back directly in that way, for obvious ethical reasons, and so I came up with the idea of The Therapy Exchange.
The Therapy Exchange means being connected by me to two other therapists (out of area) where you can give therapy to one and receive therapy from another, and I’ve created this little network so that we can have regular (weekly, or less if you prefer), good, affordable therapy, for as long as you like.
And the therapist membership is growing all the time.

There is a small fee attached because I run the backroom to make it all happen, the admin etc. The cost will be £19.99 per month – I am keeping it low so that it is genuinely affordable therapy.
To thank you for helping build this community, I'm offering a discount on the usual monthly fee. If you JOIN BEFORE THE END OF THE MONTH, you’ll get 15% off and pay £16.99 per month, and you will keep that price for as long as you remain a member. Click the link below and get your discount 💚
I'm neurodivergent and a member of the LGBTQIA+ family, and so it's therefore important to me that this is reflected in The Therapy Exchange as I know how important it was to me to have an experienced, informed, and affirming therapist, so I welcome diversity in our little community.
If you’ve stayed with me this far, thank you. If you’re a qualified UK therapist and you feel this idea resonates with you and you would be interested in joining in, please click on the joining button and you'll be taken to a form to complete for registration.
If you have any questions or you're not yet sure if this is for you, you can find out more about how it all works, what's coming up next, and how to join, by clicking the button below.
I can't wait to hear from you.
Warm wishes,
Anne

Your matter too
Too often, we put our own wellbeing last, even while knowing the value of therapy. And often the reason is down to cost. The Therapy Exchange was created to change that.
I've created a simple, supportive system where therapists both give and receive weekly therapy from each other. By exchanging sessions through a membership, you’re reminded that your needs matter too.
This isn’t just about therapy. It’s also about community. It’s about creating a culture where therapists feel cared for, connected, and able to thrive in their work – knowing you don’t have to carry everything alone but without the barrier of high therapy fees.
As our network grows, I hope The Therapy Exchange will expand into a true community: a place of mutual support, connection, and shared growth.
I invite you to try The Therapy Exchange – you can cancel anytime.
Warm wishes,
Anne.
The FAQs
Do I need to be qualified? Yes. At this stage, members need to be qualified counsellors or psychotherapists in supervised practice. We hope to welcome trainees as members in the near future. If you’re a trainee (or about to be), please get in touch with Anne at anne@annelewistherapy.co.uk to let us know you’d like to join. Our aim is that trainee members will be able to receive therapy, and once fully qualified, they’ll be able to continue their membership and also provide therapy to other members.
Why is the membership fee £19.99 per month? We’re currently offering low Membership rate of £16.99/month for those who JOIN TODAY - The discount is our way of thanking members for helping us build the community.
What does my membership fee cover? Your fee covers the behind-the-scenes work of keeping The Therapy Exchange running smoothly – things like admin, matching, communication, and ensuring everything meets professional and ethical standards.
What do sessions look like? The therapeutic relationship is always between the counsellor and the client. Therapists safeguard sessions within the usual parameters of their private practice. In short: your sessions will be as you expect, held safely and ethically within the therapist’s professional framework.
How much admin is involved for me? Very little. At onboarding, we’ll ask for: - Evidence of your governing body membership - Proof of your current professional insurance - A short form with some basic information so we can match you. From there, we’ll introduce you to your therapist and your client. Once matched, you arrange sessions directly with each other. We simply ask you to let us know the date of your first session with both your therapist and your client. After that, it’s between you and them. But we're here if you need us.
Where are sessions located? All sessions take place online. Therapists provide sessions using their usual platform of choice.
How are you ensuring ethical practice? Every member has to show proof of professional insurance and current membership of their governing body before joining. This helps ensure that all sessions offered through The Therapy Exchange are carried out ethically and safely.
Can I choose my therapist? All therapists in The Therapy Exchange are fully qualified, insured, and members of a governing body. We do our best to match you with someone you don’t already know, who has the availability you’re looking for and, where possible, an interest in the areas you’d like to work on. If you have a preference, let us know and we’ll try to accommodate it, but we can’t guarantee it every time. We ask members to come with an open mind, but we also know how important it is to feel the fit is right. If it doesn’t feel like a good match, just let us know and we’ll arrange a new one.
How long does it take to get matched? We aim to match members within two weeks – you will appreciate that this depends on numbers and availability. We’ll stay in touch with you while you’re waiting so you’re not left wondering what's happening.
What if I want to finish with my therapist? You’re free to end at any time. We encourage you to give your therapist notice so that you can have a proper ending session if possible. Please also check their Therapy Agreement. If you’d like to take a break from therapy, let us know so we can pause your membership. If you would like to work with a different therapist, please get in touch and we can look at who might be a good fit for you.
What if my therapist wants to end therapy? Each therapist has their own process for ending therapy and this is usually set out in their Therapy Agreement.. Once notice has been given, please get in touch with us so we can begin finding you a new therapist.
What if I don’t feel able or equipped to work with a client? Not every client is right for every therapist. If you find you can’t work with someone, just contact us and we’ll look at alternative options for you both.
What if I want to stop seeing a client? If you need to end with a client, follow the process you set out in your own client contract. Once you’ve let your client know, please also let us know so we can reallocate their slot to another therapist.
What if my client wants to finish with me? Clients are free to end at any time. Please follow your usual process for ending therapy. We encourage members to offer an ending session, as it can make endings feel more complete, but it isn’t always possible. If you want to pause your membership after your client leaves, just let us know.
What if I need to take time off (e.g. holiday, illness, parental leave)? No problem. Just let us know if you need to step back for a while. We can pause your membership so your place is waiting for you when you return.
Can I be matched with someone I already know? We make every effort to avoid this. If it does happen, let us know straight away and we’ll find a new match.
